These specialist qualifications are aimed at team leaders, supervisors, foremen and site managers seeking to gain a thorough understanding of leadership and management principles to effectively lead, supervise and safely manage staff in the built environment and construction industry on Nuclear Site.

Qualification overview:

The units in this qualification are designed to equip learners with core skills to drive projects and programmes of work in line with the needs of employers and contractors.

Unit 1 (ILM 300) Leadership and Management Practice for the Construction and Built Environment Sector (2-days)

Purpose of this Unit:

To develop knowledge and understanding of using leadership and management skills to ensure safety and quality requirements and appropriate standards of behaciour are met when achieving project and work plans as required by a practicing or potential team leader or site supervisor.

Day 1 & 2 - Learning outcomes

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of a site supervisor or team leader
  • Understand the differences between leadership and management and the relationship between the two
  • Understand the role of quality management in site management
  • Understand the importance of health and safety in site management

Unit 2 (ILM 315) Nuclear Safety Culture (2-days)

Purpose of this Unit:

To develop an understanding of the distinguishing characteristics of nuclear power and the regulatory and safety requirements in nuclear construction as required by a supervisor in order to promote and maintain a strong nuclear safety culture.

Days 3 & 4 - Learning outcomes

  • Understand what is special about nuclear power and how that impacts upon own area of responsibility
  • Understand how the Nuclear Industry is regulated and the consequences of non-compliance
  • Understand the principles and application of excellence and error prevention in nuclear construction
  • Understand their role as a leader in promoting and maintaining nuclear safety
